Explore the Celtic culture and wide open spaces in Wales ~ September 10th-19th, 2025
Experience the delight of a farm-based horse riding journey in Wales. Staying in a beautiful traditional 400-year-old Welsh Longhouse, we’ll adventure out each day on an exciting trail ride, stopping at a local pub or cafe for lunch and coming back “home” for a delicious locally sourced meal and to share stories about our adventures.
When you stay right at the farm, you really get to know the horses, all Welsh Section D Cobs, who live in the fields surrounding the longhouse and experience first hand how they truly are part of the family.
On this trip, we will spend one night in London upon arrival to recover from jet lag, meet our fellow riders and see a show in the West End. This is an all-inclusive holiday so all you have to do is show up and the rest is taken care of for you!

The Horses, The Food, The Area and more
We will feel very welcome at Blaenau (pronounced ‘Bly-nye’ to rhyme with fly), a traditional Welsh longhouse, built nearly 400 years ago, with stones from the quarry just upstream. As we settle in for the week, you'll soon find out that there is something incredibly special about this long, low house sitting on the rock next to the stream.
Our horse partners for the week are all beautiful Welsh Section D cobs - born, raised and trained on property. If we're lucky, we may even get to play with a baby or two frolicking around the fields! The horses here are part of the human family and their horse family consists of a herd of brothers and sisters, which makes for exceptionally relaxed and confident horses. They are very reliable, friendly and sure-footed; guaranteed to give you an excellent ride.
The rooms are simple, cozy and clean and after a delicious dinner, you'll tuck yourself in with Welsh blankets, fluffy pillows, 100% cotton linen and goosedown duvets to guarantee and good sleep after a long day in the saddle.
A comfortable lounge provides space for guests to relax and socialize in the evening, and both breakfast and dinner are in the garden room overlooking the stream at the back of the house.
Every day we'll indulge in a fresh loaf of sourdough bread, eggs from the resident chickens and locally sourced food for every meal.
After a long day riding, we can content ourselves with a glass of wine or tea by the wood-burner in the lounge after dinner and a debrief on the day’s riding adventures or we may head off through the fields down to the pub for a little bit of fun and games.
Around the farm there are many lovely walks, and beautiful waterfalls very nearby.
Riding and Fitness Level
Horse skills: mid-intermediate through advanced. You need to be comfortable in walk, trot and canter and be able to control your horse in all gaits when not in a nose-to-tail line. We will do some extended trots and/or canters on the trail as well as some short gallops, so if you have a weak back or core, it is imperative to start a workout routine several months prior to the trip to strengthen these areas. Also, to make the trip the best possible experience for you, we recommend that you ride at least one to two days per week starting two or more months prior to the trip, just to get your derrière and riding muscles ready to spend some hours in the saddle.
If you haven’t ridden for awhile and are a lower intermediate rider, for maximum enjoyment of the experience, you can still prepare by taking 8 or more riding lessons before joining me on this trip.
***While we all do our best to stick to exact itineraries, sometimes changes are inevitable and flexibility is key.
